Associate Professor David Sibbritt

David Sibbritt is an Associate Professor in Biostatistics. His career as an academic only commenced in mid 2001. During the period 1993-1997 he was employed as a statistician for the Health Services Research Group. This work consisted solely of consultancies within the Healthcare Sector, mostly related to the development of strategic planning and resource allocation models. In 1998, he undertook a PhD candidature (Medical Statistics), which he completed in August 2001. Since this time he has been employed as an academic biostatistician at the School of Medicine and Public Health, University of Newcastle.
Associate Professor Sibbritt has been involved in a number of research activities encompassing a broad range of research topics. However, the main focus of his research is in the field of Complementary and Alternative Medicine (CAM). His CAM research has involved collaboration with two large cohort studies: the HUNT Nord-Trøndelag study, Norway (90,000 adults from Nord-Trøndelag County); and the Australian Longitudinal Study on Women's Health (40,000 women across Australia). He also collaborates with researchers on the Pelotas Birth Cohort (Brazil) on non-CAM research.
Associate Professor Sibbritt's statistical expertise is acknowledged through his numerous invitations to conduct workshops and present seminars, both in Australia and internationally. He has been invited to present seminars in Brazil (Sao Paulo and Pelotas) (Sep 2005), Tokyo, Japan (May 2002), and Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam (Jan, 2007) as well as five statistical workshops in Newcastle (2002-2004). Dr. Sibbritt also currently holds the position of Statistical Advisor for the international journal Complementary Therapies in Medicine as well as being a reviewer for several other international journals. He is also a member (Principal Researcher) of a Priority Research Centre, the Research Centre for Gender, Health and Ageing, located at the University of Newcastle. Associate Professor Sibbrit is statistical advisor to the journal Complementary Therapies in Medicine and adjunct investigator, Australian Longitudinal Study on Women's Health and Member (Principal Researcher), Research Centre for Gender, Health and Ageing.
