New $1.5M funding boost for NORPHCAM program (Jan 11) |
NORPHCAM has recently been awarded over $1.5M in new external Govt funding to support a number of core research streams. Dr Alex Broom received over $750,000 via a prestigious ARC Future Fellowship to support a number of NORPHCAM projects and programs both in Australia and researching traditional medicine with colleagues in Brazil and India. The Future Fellowship allows Dr Broom to maintain his research focus upon CAM for the next 4 years. Alex will be taking up his Future Fellowship at the School of Social Science, University of Queensland in Feb/March 2011.
Meanwhile, Professor Jon Adams has been awarded an NHMRC Career Development Fellowship ($424,000) to further the NORPHCAM reseach program examining CAM consumption in relation to a number of women's health issues. Jon will be taking up his new 4 year Fellowship as Research Professor of Public Health, University of Technology, Sydney in March/April 2011.
Further NORPHCAM success was also recently achieved with the award of another ARC Discovery Projct Grant ($390,000) to conduct a 3 year project examining the patient journeys of women with back pain. The study explores the decision-making amongst such women as well as the communication between both patients and providers and a range of practitioners for back pain (GPs, physiotherapists, chiropractors, osteopaths, massage therapists and acupuncturists). This project, the second ARC Discovery Project Grant success for NORPHCAM in just the last 2 years, is lead by Dr Alex Broom. Other Chief Investigators are Jon Adams (NORPHCAM) and David Sibbritt (NORPHCAM) in collaboration with Prof Refshauge of the University of Sydney.
